Since January 2008, The Wolf has benefited from Arts Council funding. Since receiving its grant the magazine has increased its content by a third and is perfect bound. The formative years of The Wolf quickly established the magazine as a leading independent poetry magazine in the UK. As Bloodaxe editor Neil Astley remarked during a lecture for Stanza: ‘The next [poetry magazine] to watch will be The Wolf, which has a young editorial team who aren't afraid to ruffle a few feathers.’ Since 2002, over 350 poets have been published in The Wolf, from all continents of the world. Recent authors published include Saadi Youssef, Penelope Shuttle, John Kinsella, Peter Redgrove and CD Wright. The Wolf publishes international translations, and commissions critical prose, book reviews and interviews with leading contemporary poets, which are frequently mentioned as distinguishing characteristics of the magazine. The poetry, however, comes purely through work submitted. There is no 'friends pile' or special treatment with regard to the consideration of any poet or poem. Anyone is welcome to submit poetry or critical work, at any time. Depending on quantities of submissions, you can expect an email or postal reply (please include an SAE) within six months of your submission. If, for any reason, you do not receive a reply in this time, please send a query to our main email address: thewolfpoetry@hotmail.com Renowned for its auspicious launches, once a year, The Wolf also embarks on a poetry tour. Recent tour cities have included Paris (Shakespeare and Company Bookshop), London, Manchester, Glasgow and Wales.

But postal submissions (if you don’t have email) can be sent to: The Editor, Please submit no more than 5 poems. Postal submissions should include an SAE. International coupons are not accepted. We accept any poetry of various styles or theme. But it's advisible to read a few issues of the magazine to see what gets in. The editor prefers poems to hold a modernist aesthetic over the postmodern. Experimental over mainstream. Serious over light verse. It's worth seeing how this fits in with recent publications of The Wolf. Additionally The Wolf welcomes critical prose. Feel free to submit work on any poetry subject (again it maybe worth reading what kind of poetry criticism we tend to print before submitting. (approx. 2,000-3,000 words) or a review of a poetry book (1,000-1,500 words). It is advisable to make critical work for the attention of our reviews editor, Sandeep Parmar. We welcome original artwork or photography. In each issue of The Wolf there is an Artist in Residence. We tend to print 6-8 page/half-page examples of artwork, so please send a healthy range of work. Individual pieces of artwork/photography will not be published. A complimentary copy of The Wolf is available to each author published in the magazine.
